Corian

What is Corian?

Corian was created by American chemical company DuPont in the late 1960s. It is a synthetic, solid surface and decorative material made up of the mineral rock substances of aluminium hydroxide and acrylic polymer resin. It is manufactured in three thicknesses: 6mm, 12mm and 19mm. Crafted to a high standard, the colour and patterning of Corian resembles granite, quartz and marble.

Why use Corian in CNC cutting?

Corian is a very versatile and flexible material, and can be cut into almost any size or shape. It is also suitable for engraving, milling and grinding. When heated (a process called thermoforming), its moldability is practically limitless. Corian CNC cutting is a great way to have slabs custom cut and ready for pre-fabrication or as stand-alone pieces. Durability wise, it is sought after because it is non-porous, fade proof, stain and heat resistant, and most scratches can be buffed out with a cleaner or abrasive pad like Scotch-Brite. Originally only available in white, Corian now comes in over 100 different colours, so it has a much wider appeal.

What can you make from Corian?

Corian can be used for many different things, from residential to commercial, practical to artistic. Its primary use, however, is in the home as a kitchen countertop or a general benchtop surface / chopping board. Other popular functions include bathroom sinks and vanities, doors and drawers, storage boxes and baskets, candle and plant holders, cake toppers and other homewares.

How much does Corian CNC cutting cost?
